Lines levy Asia-South America rate hikes

General rate increases on the Asia-South America trade continue to roll in with Zim and Hamburg-Sud joining the bevy of levying lines.

Zim has called for GRI of US$650 per TEU and $1,300 per FEU for the Asia-East coast South America trade from January 1, with Hamburg-Sud announcing two rate increases on routes from Asia to South America.

From January 1, Hamburg-Sud plans to implement a GRI on the Asia-West Coast South America trade of $600 per TEU and $1,200 per FEU, and from January 15 an additional $300 per TEU and $600 per FEU.

On the Asia-East Coast South America trade, the German line wants $750 per TEU and $1,500 per FEU from January 1.

Zim and Hamburg-Sud join the alphabet soup of lines MOL, MSC, NYK and APL in implementing New Year GRIs.

MOL will charge US$750 more per TEU and $1,500 per FEU on the Asia-East Coast South America trade from January 1. The rate hikes will include an additional levy of $1,000 per 40-foot hi-cube reefer boxes.
